How do I choose the right size CowPot?

This is not a comprehensive list, and you can visit our individual product styles’ pages for more details on what plants are best suited for each CowPots size. In our own farm production we recommend using the #3 Six cell for cucurbits (squash, pumpkins, cucumbers). The #3 Square and #3 Round are well suited for cut flowers like sunflowers, marigolds and pansies. The #3 sized CowPots are also appropriate for cold season crops: lettuce, kale, cabbage, broccoli, etc.

The #4 Square and #4 Square Tall are the best choice for tomatoes, eggplants, peppers and other plants that need a little extra time indoors before being transplanted outdoors. The #4s have also been a popular size for growing herbs: parsley, basil, cilantro, etc.

The larger sizes are great for using as a step up container or for use with growing combination planters or longer season plants. We have received lots of positive feedback about using the #6 Round and Square for Dahlias and tuber production.
